Introduce

Chiyonofuji no Ooichou is a sports fighting game centered around sumo wrestling, released on the NES console. In this game, players take on the role of Chiyonofuji Mitsugu, one of the greatest yokozuna in the history of Japanese sumo. The main objective is to guide Chiyonofuji through various sumo tournaments (basho) and achieve victory against a series of opponents to become the champion.

The gameplay of Chiyonofuji no Ooichou focuses on 1v1 matches on the sumo ring (dohyo). Players need to use the control buttons to move, attack, and defend. Various sumo techniques and moves are quite diverse, including pushes (oshi), throws (nage), and holds (kimarite). Each wrestler has their own strength and skill stats, requiring players to employ appropriate strategies to exploit opponents' weaknesses and leverage Chiyonofuji's strengths.

Before each match, players can see images of their opponents and their names. During the match, the energy or stamina bar for both wrestlers will be displayed, decreasing as they take damage or perform powerful moves. When a wrestler is pushed out of the dohyo circle or touches any part of their body other than the soles of their feet to the ring, the match ends, and the remaining wrestler wins. The game may also include elements like training or pre-match tactical choices to enhance Chiyonofuji's power.

A notable aspect of the game is its authentic portrayal of sumo matches, from the entry rituals (dohyo-iri) to the specific movements and techniques of the sport. While simple, the graphics and sound are sufficient to convey the atmosphere of sumo tournaments. Chiyonofuji no Ooichou offers a challenging and engaging sumo wrestling experience for fans of sports and fighting games.
