In Binary Land, players control two adorable penguins named Gurin and Malon. The primary objective of each stage is to bring both penguins together at a heart located at a fixed position on the map. The unique and challenging aspect of the game lies in its special movement mechanic: when you move one penguin, the other will also move in a symmetrical or synchronized manner. For example, if you move Gurin to the left, Malon might move to the right (symmetrical movement), or both might move to the left (synchronized movement), depending on the level design.

The stages are grid-based and filled with various obstacles and enemies. The main enemies in the game are spiders. If a penguin touches a spider, you lose a life. To deal with spiders, Gurin and Malon have the ability to shoot webs. When hit, spiders get trapped in the web and cannot move or cause harm for a short period, allowing you to pass safely. Besides spiders, players also have to contend with fire traps or slippery ice tiles, requiring careful planning for each move.

Each stage is referred to as a "round," and the difficulty increases with each successive round. Players need to meticulously plan their movements so that both penguins do not get stuck or hit obstacles. The coordination between the two characters is key to completing each round. Binary Land is a puzzle game that demands logical thinking and quick reflexes, offering a unique entertainment experience on the NES console.
