Power Pro Kun Pocket 2 (パワプロクンポケット2) is a unique baseball game for the Game Boy Color, developed by Konami. The biggest difference of the Power Pro Kun Pocket series compared to traditional baseball games is its blend of deep sports simulation with role-playing game (RPG) elements and rich, often humorous or dramatic, storylines.
The core gameplay of Power Pro Kun Pocket 2 is divided into two main modes: "Success Mode" and "Purosupi Mode" (or "VS Mode").
In "Success Mode," players take on the role of a young baseball player, spending three years in their career trying to become a professional. This is the main story mode, where players engage in daily events, interact with various characters, and make choices that influence their character's stats and the story's progression. These choices can lead to multiple endings, from successfully becoming a baseball star or finding love, to unexpected and humorous outcomes. Players need to manage their time, train to improve stats like power, batting skills, speed, and defense, while also maintaining health and morale. Baseball matches are interspersed throughout, requiring players to demonstrate their control skills in batting, pitching, and fielding.
"Purosupi Mode" (or "VS Mode") is an exhibition match mode, allowing players to create or select baseball teams to play against the AI or against friends via a link cable. This mode focuses entirely on baseball matches, where players can try out the players they created in "Success Mode" or use pre-existing rosters. The baseball controls in the game are intuitive yet deep, requiring precise timing for hitting, strategic pitching placement, and controlling players on the field.
The game's graphics feature the characteristic Chibi style of the Power Pro series, with small, cute characters that still clearly convey baseball actions. The sound and background music are also appropriately designed, creating a cheerful and exciting atmosphere for the matches.
