In Pokemon Red Version, players step into the shoes of a young aspiring Pokémon trainer embarking on a journey from Pallet Town. The primary goal is to become the greatest Pokémon Master and complete the Pokédex by collecting all 150 unique Pokémon species. Players are given their first starter Pokémon by Professor Oak, choosing one of three iconic creatures: Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle.
The core gameplay of Pokemon Red Version revolves around exploring the vast Kanto region, encountering and battling wild Pokémon to catch them, and challenging other trainers along the way. The combat system is turn-based, where Pokémon use various moves with different types, strengths, and effects. Mastering Pokémon types and their elemental matchups (e.g., Water is strong against Fire, Fire is strong against Grass) is key to winning battles.
Players must collect eight Gym Badges by defeating Gym Leaders in various cities. Each Gym Leader specializes in a certain Pokémon type and presents a significant strategic challenge. After acquiring all eight badges, players become eligible to enter the Pokémon League, where they must face the Elite Four and ultimately the reigning Pokémon Champion to claim the title.
Beyond battling and collecting, players can develop their Pokémon by leveling them up, evolving them, and teaching them new moves via TMs (Technical Machines) and HMs (Hidden Machines). HMs allow Pokémon to use special abilities outside of battle to overcome obstacles, such as cutting down trees or surfing across water, opening up new areas to explore. The ability to trade Pokémon with the Pokemon Blue Version is also a crucial element for completing the Pokédex, encouraging interaction among players.
