NBA Jam '99 for the Game Boy Color delivers an exhilarating 2-on-2 arcade basketball experience, characterized by its fast-paced and unrestricted gameplay. Players select one of their favorite NBA teams, each featuring two players, to engage in high-octane matches.
The core of the gameplay is its exaggerated and entertaining nature. There are no fouls or rule violations, allowing players to perform incredible dunks, blazing three-pointers, and audacious steals without penalty. A highlight is the "On Fire" mode, activated when a player scores three consecutive baskets without the opponent stealing the ball or scoring. When "On Fire," the player gains enhanced scoring ability, increased speed, and can even shatter the backboard with powerful dunks. Signature visual and audio effects like "Boomshakalaka!" and "He's on fire!" further amplify the game's excitement and fun.
Players utilize the controls to move their players, pass the ball, shoot, dunk, steal, and block. A turbo button allows for increased movement speed and special actions.
