Lemmings 2 - The Tribes on GBC maintains the characteristic strategic puzzle gameplay of the series. Your primary goal is to guide a large group of Lemmings, small, somewhat silly but adorable creatures, through trap-filled levels to a safe exit. The game features a total of 12 different Lemming tribes, each possessing a unique set of skills, totaling 60 skills, which brings significant diversity and strategic depth compared to previous versions.
At the start of a level, Lemmings continuously drop from an entrance and walk forward mindlessly. The player's task is to select and assign specific skills to individual Lemmings for them to perform necessary actions. These skills include: Climber (climbing walls), Floater (using an umbrella to fall slowly), Blocker (standing to block other Lemmings' paths), Bomber (self-destructing to create a hole), Builder (building bridges), Digger (digging straight down), Miner (digging diagonally), and many new unique skills like Basher (digging horizontally), Stoner (turning into stone), Platformer (creating platforms), Skater (skating), Swimmer (swimming), Bouncer (bouncing up), etc.
The challenge lies in distributing a limited number of skills wisely and at the right time. The environments in Lemmings 2 - The Tribes are intricately designed with various obstacles such as cliffs, lava, water, spike traps, and walls that need to be destroyed. Each level requires a certain percentage of Lemmings to survive for you to advance to the next. If this percentage is not met, you will have to restart the level.
The user interface on GBC is optimized, allowing you to easily select skills and assign Lemmings. You can pause the game to strategize or speed up the game flow. The pixel art graphics and characteristic Game Boy Color sound create a nostalgic yet captivating experience.
