In Bomberman Selection, players control the Bomberman character within a maze-like arena filled with monsters and destructible blocks. Throughout the levels, players can collect various power-ups. These include increasing the number of bombs that can be placed simultaneously, extending the bomb's explosion radius, or boosting Bomberman's movement speed. Collecting and effectively utilizing these power-ups is key to overcoming increasingly difficult challenges.

Each stage features a unique layout with different types of monsters, each with its own movement and attack patterns. Players need to carefully time and position their bombs to eliminate enemies without harming themselves. Once all monsters are defeated, an exit appears, leading the player to the next stage. The game often includes a time limit for each level, urging players to act quickly.
