X-Men vs Street Fighter marked the beginning of Capcom's highly successful crossover fighting game series, pitting superheroes from the X-Men universe against legendary warriors from Street Fighter. As the first title in the famous "Vs." series, it introduced a unique tag-team mechanic, allowing players to select two characters to form a team and switch between them at any time using the "Variable Attack" feature.
The gameplay system of X-Men vs Street Fighter is incredibly fast-paced and intense. Each character possesses a distinct move set, including basic attacks, special moves, and powerful Hyper Combos. To execute a Hyper Combo, players must build up their "Hyper Combo Gauge" at the bottom of the screen. This gauge is also utilized for assist attacks (Variable Counter), enabling the inactive character to jump in and perform a quick attack before swapping places.
A hallmark of the game is its explosive battles, featuring vibrant visual and sound effects. Characters can perform long combo strings, high jumps, and aerial "air combos." The combination of characters with diverse abilities and fighting styles from two different universes creates an astonishing depth and balance, offering an engaging and challenging fighting experience for players.
