Introduce
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (UMK3) is a high-speed 2D fighting game developed by Midway. It serves as an enhanced version of Mortal Kombat 3, bringing an expanded roster of characters, new arenas, and additional features.
The core gameplay revolves around one-on-one combat. Players select from a diverse cast of fighters, utilizing basic attacks (high punch, low punch, high kick, low kick) and unique special moves specific to each character.
A key aspect of UMK3 is its more complex and fluid combo system compared to previous iterations. Players can chain together normal and special attacks to create long, damaging combos. The "Run" button, introduced in MK3 and carried over to UMK3, allows players to dash towards opponents quickly, opening up new offensive strategies.
Once an opponent's health bar is depleted, players have a brief window to perform the iconic finishing moves synonymous with the Mortal Kombat series. UMK3 retains Fatalities (brutal finishing moves), Brutalities (long combo chains culminating in the opponent exploding), Friendships (friendly finishes), and Babalities (turning the opponent into a baby). Additionally, this version introduced Animalities, allowing players to transform into an animal to finish off their opponent.
The character roster is significantly expanded from MK3, featuring the return of fan favorites like Scorpion, (masked) Sub-Zero, Reptile, Ermac, Mileena, and Rain, along with new additions such as Noob Saibot and Human Smoke. Each character possesses a distinct move set, requiring players to practice to master them.
The game also features new arenas, some of which include environmental interactions or allow players to uppercut opponents through different levels of the stage (Uppercut to another stage).
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 remains one of the most beloved fighting games of all time, thanks to its fast-paced, signature brutal gameplay and the sheer variety of its finishing moves.
