Introduce
U.N. Squadron is a classic horizontal scrolling shoot 'em up game developed by Capcom, first released in arcades. The game puts players in the role of elite fighter pilots, tasked with defending the world from a mysterious terrorist force.
Before each mission, players choose one of three available pilots: Shin Kazama, Mickey Simon, or Greg Gates. Each pilot possesses unique special abilities that influence gameplay. For instance, Shin can launch special missiles, Mickey has better damage resistance, and Greg can purchase sub-weapons at a lower cost. Choosing the right pilot to suit one's personal strategy is a crucial factor.
After selecting a pilot, players choose their aircraft. Initially, only a few basic aircraft types like the F-20 Tigershark or F-14 Tomcat are available. As the game progresses, players can unlock and purchase more powerful aircraft such as the A-10 Thunderbolt II or F-15 Eagle. Each aircraft has different stats concerning speed, armor, and weapon carrying capacity.
The main gameplay takes place on a horizontal scrolling screen. Players control their aircraft, dodging enemy fire and destroying numerous enemy planes, tanks, ships, and other targets. The aircraft has a primary weapon, an unlimited machine gun, and a limited supply of sub-weapons. Sub-weapons include guided missiles, bombs, or other special ammunition, which are very useful when dealing with strong enemies or bosses.
During gameplay, defeated enemies may drop currency icons (POW) or weapon upgrade icons (P). Collecting money allows players to make purchases between stages. The P icons will upgrade the firepower of the main weapon, making the aircraft stronger. At the end of each stage, players will face a formidable boss, requiring precise dodging and attacking skills.
Between stages, players visit the Shop where they can use their earned money to buy aircraft upgrades or additional sub-weapons. Upgrades include increased speed, armor, main weapon power, or purchasing extra lives. This shopping system adds strategic depth, encouraging players to collect money and consider investing in upgrades that suit their playstyle. The ultimate goal is to complete all missions and defeat the final enemy.
