Introduce
Truxton, known as Tatsujin in Japan, is a vertical-scrolling shoot 'em up (shmup) developed by Toaplan and released in 1988. Players control a single spaceship, battling through five stages filled with enemies and bosses to defeat the evil Gidans empire.
The gameplay of Truxton is straightforward yet challenging. Your spaceship has two main types of weapons:
- Main Shot: This is your primary weapon, which can be upgraded by collecting power-up icons. There are three different types of main shots, indicated by color:
Players can switch between weapon types by picking up the corresponding colored weapon icon. Upgrading the weapon increases the number of shots fired and their power.
- Blue: Fires powerful, piercing lasers.
- Red: Fires wide-spreading shots, ideal for dealing with multiple enemies simultaneously.
- Green: Fires swirling shots with a unique trajectory.
- Bomb: This is a limited-use secondary weapon that deals massive damage and clears enemy bullets from the screen. Bombs are highly useful in critical situations or when facing bosses. Players can collect more bombs by picking up bomb icons.
In addition to weapons, players can also pick up other icons such as Speed Up icons to increase the spaceship's movement speed, making it easier to dodge bullets.
Each stage in Truxton features unique designs with various enemy types, from small fighters to large, dangerous structures. The end of each stage culminates in an intense boss battle, requiring players to learn their attack patterns and find their weaknesses.
The graphics of Truxton boast a classic arcade style with vibrant colors and detailed designs. The music and sound effects also contribute to a thrilling and engaging shooting experience. Truxton is a quintessential vertical-scrolling shooter, known for its high difficulty and addictive gameplay.
