Introduce
Thunder Cross II is a classic horizontal scrolling shoot 'em up game developed and released by Konami in 1991. As the sequel to the original Thunder Cross, this game continues to immerse players in a battle against an invading alien force threatening Earth.
Players control one of two advanced fighter spacecraft: the Blue Thunder or the Red Cross. The primary objective is to navigate through stages filled with enemies, dodge countless projectiles, and eliminate all threats. The core gameplay revolves around collecting power-up items to enhance the spacecraft's firepower and defensive capabilities.
A distinctive feature of Thunder Cross II is its unique "Option" system. Upon collecting "O" icons, players gain small satellites that orbit the main spacecraft. These satellites fire in conjunction with your ship, significantly boosting offensive power. Players can collect up to four "Options." What makes this system special is the ability to change the formation of these "Options" by pressing a dedicated button. Formations include: Forward (all Options move to the front), Back (Options move to the rear), Spread (Options disperse in various directions), and Diagonal (Options form a diagonal angle). Flexibly changing formations is key to adapting to different combat situations.
In addition to "Options," other power-up items include: Speed-up (increases the spacecraft's movement speed), Missile (adds missiles fired from below), Laser or Wide Shot (changes the main shot type of the spacecraft), and Shield (creates a temporary protective barrier). Players can also collect "Flash" – a screen-clearing bomb capable of wiping out all small enemies and dealing significant damage to larger foes.
The game features a variety of stages, ranging from deep space to complex alien bases, each concluding with a challenging boss battle. Bosses typically have unique attack patterns and weaknesses, requiring players to employ strategy and quick reflexes. Thunder Cross II also supports two-player simultaneous play, allowing two players to cooperate and overcome challenges, adding to the entertainment and strategic depth.
With vibrant arcade graphics, intense sound, and addictive gameplay, Thunder Cross II became one of the beloved shoot 'em up titles during the golden age of arcade gaming.
