The professor stands on top of the blocks and will fall down as lines beneath him are cleared. If a block falls on the professor, or if the professor gets stuck on a line unable to descend, or if the screen fills up, the game ends. This adds a unique strategic element and time pressure, as players must not only focus on clearing lines but also on planning the professor's path.

Beyond the Puzzle Mode, Tetris Plus 2 also features a "Classic Mode" for those who prefer the traditional Tetris experience without additional elements. In both modes, the block drop speed gradually increases as players score points or advance through levels, creating an escalating challenge.
