Tecmo Bowl is a classic arcade American football game, renowned for its simple yet highly engaging gameplay. Players control a football team with the objective of scoring more points than their opponent within a limited time frame.

On offense, players can choose one of four pre-set offensive plays: two running plays and two passing plays. After selecting and initiating the play, you will control the ball carrier. If it's a running play, you'll try to evade opposing defenders to advance towards the end zone. If it's a passing play, you can select one of your receivers who are running along pre-defined routes on the screen, then throw the ball towards them. Passing plays require precise timing to avoid interceptions or fumbles.

On defense, players control one of the defensive players on the field. The goal is to stop the opponent's ball carrier from advancing or to pressure the quarterback to force a hurried throw or a turnover. You can switch between defensive players to control the one closest to the ball or the one in the best strategic position. A successful tackle will end the opponent's play.
